Sustainable It Is!

Sustainable fashion is a movement of maintaining the whole system of fashion; producing clothes in environmentally and socio-economically sustainable manners.

Sustainable fashion is on the rise!

For brands, sustainable means producing clothes with least negative footprint for future humanity and the environment. For customers, sustainable means thinking about the products that we buy, whether we will wear it to the extent that it was worth being made.

These 5 brands encourage people to look good with a conscience for the earth.

Bethany Williams believes that through exploring the social and environmental issues, they could find innovative design solutions to sustainability. The brand provide an alternative way on fashion production as they believe fashions' reflection upon the world can create positive change.

Worked along side with The Vauxhall Food Bank and Tesco, the brand developed a new collection called "Breadline". The collection was made to highlight and help find solutions to hunger in the UK. Williams incorporate waste materials, recycled cardboard and 'Tesco everyday value' branded organic prints that was donated by Tesco. The brand will donate 30% of profits to The Vauxhall Food Bank. Each product is 100% sustainable.

2. EDUN

EDUN is a New York based brand that produce ready-to-wear collection, working with different partners throughout the African continent and some international mills who are exploring new eco alternatives.

EDUN's mission is to source sustainable production and encourage trade in Africa by mixing its creative vision with the richness and positivity of this fast-changing continent.

Lark & Berry was launched in 2018 by Laura Chavez and it has become the first jewellery brand in the world that use cultured diamonds and stones.

Laura got the idea of using cultured diamonds as she saw how difficult it was to buy high quality jewellery with affordable price and usually, the origins of the diamonds were unclear. Laura also discovered that by using cultured diamonds, Lark & Berry could help to create a sustainable future for the environment.

Lark & Berry's main goal is to deliver luxurious high quality products possible for the customers and yet, also be mindful of their social responsibility and giving a positive impact to the environment.

Bottletop is a British luxury sustainable brand co-founded by Cameron Saul and Oliver Wayman. The brand's mission is to encourage people and planet through sustainable design and creative culture.

Bottletop got famous because of their handbags that were made up of upcycled bottle tops from Kenya lined with leather offcuts. Through a collaboration with Mulberry, the handbags became international best sellers, supporting artisans and funding health education for young people in Africa.

Bottletop then discovered the beauty and versatility of upcycled metal ring pulls and developed a chain mail fabric that is now known as Bottletop's DNA of today. The brand continue to support health, education and skills training projects through Bottletop Foundation.

Good News is a London-based footwear brand that aim to improve social and environmental sustainability of their products by using sustainable materials such as recycled rubber soles (made from recycled rubber pellets ground down from car tyres and old rubber shoes), organic cotton and weave uppers (no toxins use, no chemical fertilisers use, environmental friendly and breathable) and recycled eco-lite footbed (contains bio-oil and recycled rubber). The packaging is made up of 100% recycled cardboard.

Good News also adapts to fewer production process to produce their products to reduce waste. The brand donate dead stock and defected shoes to the homeless and refugees in need.

Looking at how these brands are encouraging people to save the earth, me myself as a customer started thinking to play by the rules, recycle and reuse. Let us all be a force of nature! Recycle takes little effort on your part, for a big difference to our world.

♻ Recycle: all the cool kids are doing it!
