The Story Behind Laut Kita
Laut Ku, Laut Mu, Laut Kita.
My Ocean, Your Ocean, Our Ocean.
The beauty of Indonesia's nature spread from Sabang to Marauke, from the dense tropical rainforest, mountain ranges, fertile soil, to the vast expanse of the ocean. It should be our responsibility to look after and take care of the earth.
Have you ever realised, what's happening to our ocean? Are you aware that our natural beauty is starting to be disturbed because of our own actions? In fact, our nature has already been polluted with heaps of plastic waste.
In 2018, waste in landfill has reached its maximum capacity. 80% of the waste is plastic waste which cannot be decomposed and contains bad chemicals. This pile of plastic waste will eventually be discharged into the sea through rivers and canals. Without us knowing, we are killing the ecosystem of animals and other organisms that live in the ocean. We are not only damaging our nature's health but also our own health.
What we plant, is what we reap.
Laut Kita exhibition aims to remind people the importance of the ocean and open people's eyes of the current condition of Indonesia's ocean. We have forgotten what the ocean have done for us and made it into landfills, especially with plastic waste that is difficult to decomposed.
The exhibition is also an invitation for us people to always be committed to protecting and preserving the Indonesian ocean.
