Ended the first month of 2019 with a good cause!
Students at Raffles Design Institute are encouraged to join fashion related competition and volunteer in various events, which is great! As students, we could gain our social experience and learn a lot of things through these events.
On 31st January 2019, all of the students majoring in International Fashion Business were asked to volunteer for EcoBank regarding Singapore's national zero-waste campaign. This campaign encourage people to create awareness for responsible consumption through the practice of recycling pre-loved goods that will later be sold in a fundraising bazaar and the sales will be funded for ARC Children's Centre (a day-care centre for children with life-threatening illness(es)). Unsold goods will be given to Embodhi Foundation to help low-income women in Sri Lanka, India and Vietnam.
The students were tasked to seperate donated stuff into categorised boxes (men and women clothes, children clothes, toys, kitchenware, stationaries, books, etc). While seperating the clothes, we need to mix and match clothing items and style three new outfits from the pre-loved clothes. (The styling result will be posted on my next blog!)
At first, I thought the task will be simple but I must say, it was actually very tiring. But at the end of the day, all of our sweat and hard work was definitely worth it!
